MCDP has well-recognized the lack of awareness of the community on basic nutrition and health have been the major impedimentto the well-being of families in general and children in particular. Similarly, the absence of adequate awareness on the preparation of balanced diet from the available food items at home are the factors that have been leading to malnutrition and frequent illness among poor women and their children. Cognizant of these, MCDP has made Basic Health and Nutrition one of the components of its integrated development program. Accordingly, MCDP has been doing the following:

The federal and regional governments in Ethiopia have set up a number of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. Schools have been closed, social gatherings banned and restrictions on vehicle movement have been imposed. While these actions are expected to slow the spread of the virus, they may have substantial adverse effects on food and nutrition security. Due to such problems and address the issue MCDP launched working Emergency project in its project sites in Addis Ababa in collaboration with its partners. The main objective of the project is to provide emergency food items and sanitation materials for people with low socio-economic status in the target areas. The project also creates awareness on COVID 19 and Gender based violence (GBV) to the target community.

As a result, MCDP supported the disadvantaged target groups to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic virus through the awareness creation for the local communities about Covid-19 and sexual abuses & harassment at home because of Covid-19, feeding more than 2000 household beneficiaries for eight months and the provision soaps and sanitizer, and promotion of hand-washing and facemasks at Addis Ketema, Nifas Silk lafto, Bole and Yeka sub cities.
